Glitz Tutorial


This tutorial was written by Amber Howard on January 3, 2015. Any resemblances to other tutorials are completely coincidental. Scripting and translating of this tutorial is forbidden. Do not copy and paste this tutorial anywhere else on the internet. Please link back to the main blog instead.

In this tutorial I used the artwork of Anna Liwanag.
You can purchase Anna’s artwork and a license through CDO.
Please do not use this or any artwork without purchasing a proper license first.

Supplies needed:
PaintShopPro — I used X7 but any version will work
Tube or close up of choice.
Font of choice — I used Wedding Bliss ES.
Scrap kit of choice — I used “Glitz” by Studio Flergs, a freebie available at SweetShoppe Designs.

Plugins needed:
Eye Candy 4 — Gradient Glow
Eye Candy 5 Impact— Perspective Shadow
Eye Candy 6 — Perspective Shadow
Lokas Artistic Effects — Metal
Xero — Porcelain
Xero — Mistifer
Xero — Radiance

Ready? Set? Go!
Open a 400x400 canvas and flood fill with #7a7a7a.

Open flergs-glitz-frame and resize to 300 pixels high.
Copy and paste as a new layer on the canvas.
Image – Free Rotate by 5.00 to the left, all layers and rotate single layer unchecked.
Objects – Align – Center in Canvas.

Open flergs-glitz-pp4 and resize to 500 pixels high.
Copy the paper.
Back on the canvas, grab the magic wand tool with the settings Mode: Add, Match: RBG, Tolerance: 20,
and click inside of the frame once.
Selections – Modify Selection – Expand by 10 pixels.

Add a new raster layer above the filled background layer.
Make sure the empty layer is active.
Paste the paper INTO selection.

Add a drop shadow of choice to the frame layer.
I used V&H: 2, Opacity: 75%, Blur: 10.00

Open flergs-glitz-tape and resize by 20%, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer at the top of the layer palette.
Image – Free Rotate by 5.00 to the left, all layers and rotate single layer unchecked.
Arrange at the top center of the frame.
Add the following drop shadow: V&H: 0, Opacity: 15, Blur: 5.00.

Open flergs-glitz-flowersticker and resize to 300 pixels wide, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer at the top of the layer palette.
Arrange at the bottom of the frame.
Add the same drop shadow that was added to the frame.

Open flergs-glitz-sequins and resize to 300 pixels wide, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer at the top of the layer palette.
Arrange at the bottom of the frame over the flower sticker.
Add the same drop shadow that was added to the frame and sticker.

Open flergs-glitz-branch and resize to 300 pixels high, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer at the top of the layer palette.
Arrange at the left of the frame.
Add the same drop shadow that was added to the other elements.

 Open flergs-glitz-posie and resize to 300 pixels high, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer at the top of the layer palette.
Arrange at the left of the frame over the branch.
Add the same drop shadow that was added to the other elements.

Open flergs-glitz-flower1 and resize by 16%, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer at the top of the layer palette.
Arrange at the bottom left of the frame over the branch and posie.
Add the same drop shadow that was added to the other elements.

Open flergs-glitz-sparkle and resize by 20%, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer at the top of the layer palette.
Arrange in the center point of the gem on flower 1.
Do not drop shadow.

Open flergs-glitz-flower2 and resize by 20%, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer at the top of the layer palette.
Arrange at the bottom left of the frame next to flower 1.
Add the same drop shadow that was added to the other elements.

Open flergs-glitz-leaves and resize by 20%, all layers checked.
Copy and paste as a new layer above the frame layer.
Image – Free Rotate by 45.00 to the right, all layers and rotate single layer unchecked.
Arrange at the bottom right of the frame.
Add the same drop shadow that was added to the other elements.

Hide the following layers: filled background, paper, frame, tape.
Merge visible.
Reopen the now merged element layer.

Open your tube or close up of choice.
Copy and paste as a new layer below your element layer.
Resize as needed, I did not resize my close up.

Grab the eraser tool, and erase any parts of your tube that may stick out at the bottom or sides of the element layer.

Duplicate your tube layer.
On the original add a drop shadow of choice.
I added a drop shadowing using Eye Candy 5 Impact – Perspective Shadow with the following settings:




















On the duplicate apply Xero – Porcelain with the default settings, changing only the blue channel to 0.
Apply Xero – Radiance with the default settings.
Apply Xero – Mistifier with the default settings.
Change the settings of this layer to Soft Light, and lower the opacity to 50%.
Merge the two tube layers together.

Open a pixel font of choice and add your credits and tagger’s mark.
Apply an optional gradient glow of choice.

Open another font of choice to add your name.
Once you are happy with the placement, convert to raster layer.

Duplicate the name layer.
On the original name layer, apply a thin to medium 3.00 point gradient glow.
Apply an optional drop shadow of choice. I used Eye Candy 6 – Perspective Shadow with the Height 0 preset and these additional settings:



















On the duplicate, go to Adjust – Add Noise by 100% with Gaussian and Monochrome checked.
Apply Lokas Artistic Effects – Metal with the following settings:
















Save as .png and you’re done!
